[wanita-muslimah] West when I reached to Qur’an I realized that the master-key to knowledge is here. Iqbals’ Dynamism And Sir Syed’s Direction: A Perfection Combination

Iqbals' Dynamism And Sir Syed's Direction:

A Perfection Combination

Chronologically a bit bizarre but in the overall scheme of things perfectly alright. Nature has its own way of functioning. But Iqbal is very much inspired by Sir Syed and it was one of the reasons of his very close friendship with Sir Ross Massood. To whom he gave those two of his couplets which he had actually written for his own grave-stone. I am not able to recall that quatrain. Am trying to get it, somehow.

Without Iqbal we will be below the poverty line (in ideas). Without Sir Syed we may not even know what a poverty line is all about.

The whole intellectual legacy is ours. It is not a new thing. We all believe in it. Let us try to relate. All that inspiration that we get from the writings and poetry of Iqbal let it not dissipate. Let it be channellized for the confluence of the two streams of knowledge.

Let these two – together – become eleven. Let us work on this equation. That will take us a long way. Iqbal's emphasis on individual and her / his selfhood (khudee – which is a shortened form of khud aagaahee – 'self-cognizance' ) is in perfect harmony with the ideals of enlightening education.

Let us not forget that Iqbal was inspired by Qur'an, essentially. This is why he once observed that after having mastered the philosophy of the East and the West when I reached to Qur'an I realized that the master-key to knowledge is here. There is no discounting of the philosophies of the East and the West, though. Interestingly it is just the opposite of that. As without this we may not truly appreciate the real value of this Book. This is why:

Thaa 'arinee' go Kaleem maiN 'arinee' go naheeN
Us pe taqaazaa rawaa mujh pe taqaazaa haraam

This is exactly why Sir Syed had (in fact, wanted to) put the same Book in the Right Hand. "Then he who is given his Record (Book) in his right hand, soon will his account be taken by an easy reckoning." (al-Inshiqaaq, 84: 7-8) Holding this Book in that order here will facilitate our onward journey – in the second phase as well. How? This Book inspires its upholders to add as much beauty to life on earth as they can – apart from appreciating it first – and enrich it to the maximum extent possible – exerting their utmost to turn this mundane world into a paradise of sorts. This proves beyond doubt that they are genuinely interested in the Everlasting Bliss.

Without this Book – in the right hand – the reckoning will be excruciating. The signs are already visible. Look at the reckoning (read screening) at the airports. Our friends know it better and more.

Many thanks and best regards.
