Indonesia's food safety body is pushing for stiffer regulation for popular libido-enhancing supplements like "Germany Gold Fly" and "The US Passion Cachou" over concerns of potentially dangerous substances in the sexual "candies."

The candies, which are widely available online, promise to boost a user's sexual stamina and desire. One product, "Sexlove," boasts that "with only one candy, a female will experience increased libido in only 10 to 15 minutes. The gum will work well, and she'll feel aroused," according to a product description on tokoone.com.

"We advise people not to consume this candy, they are illegal products and  have never been registered," Lucky S. Slamet, the head of the Food and Drug Monitoring Agency (BPOM), said. "We don't know whether they're dangerous or not."

Lucky said that the BPOM purchased some of the candies online that claim to be aphrodisiacs and is testing the products now to confirm whether or not they contain harmful substances.

Agency data shows that are at least 36 online vendors offering the supplements, including obatkuatspesial.com and toko69.com. The BPOM sent a letter to the Ministry of Communication and Information to ban the websites.

Lucky said that the BPOM has never tested or issued licenses for any of the products.

He noted, however, that while it was easy to ask the ministry to block access to such websites, similar sites may pop up again with foreign domain names.
