'Feminist uproar' against France's machismo-sexism culture following

Paris - Dominique Strauss-Kahn might have been released without bail after
prosecutors admitted that there were 'serious credibility issues' with his
accuser, but reports suggest that he will return back to a 'much changed'
France where there seems to be no end to the 'feminist uproar' against
machismo, sexism and the harassment culture that started after his arrest.
In the seven weeks since the Socialist presidential hopeful was charged with
attempted rape and sexual assault, French society has undergone massive
soul-searching in its attitudes to women, the Guardian reports. Reports have
suggested that France is divided over Strauss-Kahn's possible return to
public life, with a poll for Le Parisien newspaper saying that 49 percent of
voters said they would like to see him back on the political scene. However,
even his allies believe that he would be returning to a country that is much
changed. Feminists have carried out street demonstrations not only over the
Strauss-Kahn incident, but also over comments made by some French elite,
which they believe have undermined both rape and women. Caroline de Haas,
head of the group Osez le Feminisme, said: "The DSK affair showed that women
were fed up with inequalities and machismo of French society," warning that
the anger will continue. Strauss-Kahn was released without bail last week
after prosecutors admitted that there were 'serious credibility issues' with
his accuser, and pollsters are now trying to figure out whether or not
regardless of the outcome of the case, his popularity among Frenchwomen has
