JAZAN: A murder convict was released after six years of waiting in a Jazan jail. E. Al-Tufaihi was thrown in jail after he killed an Indonesian maid in 2005.

The trial court handed him capital punishment unless he paid SR500,000 blood money within a specific period of time, Al-Shams daily reported on Monday. However, the Saudi, who belonged to a poor family, could not raise the required sum. Later, Crown Prince Sultan, deputy premier and minister of defense and aviation, donated the money, the chairman of the Committee for the Care of Prisoners and Ex-Convicts said.
